Upper Room Christian School is located in the famous Long Island area, just outside of New York City, in the State of New York.  It has become a great model school for our 2+1+3 educational program designed by the Sino-U.S. Educational Alliance (SUEA).  Upper Room Christian School has a 35 year history with a high academic reputation and has become a member school of SUEA.  The school ranks among the top 100 of all high schools in New York State. (There are more than 1680 private high schools in New York State).

 

The Upper Room Christian School is a typical traditional Christian high school, and it was established and managed by the traditional values of Christianity in its philosophy and approach to education which is reflected in the curriculum, and in satisfying New York State educational requirements.  The campus is located in a building with a 2,800 seat Protestant Church, so the Church protects the school classrooms and programs downstairs. This is also the reason why the Long Island Christian World Center Board of Directors named the school as Upper Room Christian School. It means God oversees and protects His believers and His children.  

 

The school maintains high academic standards in a very strict disciplined environment.  All the teachers and professors are traditional European immigration and all share the Christian faith.  The School believes in small class sizes and maintains a student/teacher ratio of 6.5:1.  All the teachers have Master Degrees and above, and the College Professors are responsible for teaching the senior classes. The school does not only focus on high academics but also emphasizes cultivating the students' personality and character building. The school has a student graduation rate of 100%, and 95% of our students are counseled through our Guidance Department to enter into many of the Tier 1, (top 150), and mainstream colleges and universities in America. 

 

All courses and subjects taught at Upper Room Christian School have been approved, and meet the educational guidelines of the State Education Department of the New York State Board of Regents. The school is one of the first to start a College Preparatory Program for International students to help improve their English language skills and prepare them for success on the college and university level after graduation. 

 

Upper Room Christian School also provides social and cultural experiences for international students to interact with a socially diverse student body to help them adjust and assimilate into American culture.   These experiences prove to be more valuable lessons than even their classroom work to help students build a mature spiritual and mental attitude to face the challenges that will allow them to create a bright and successful American and global future for themselves.  This enables Upper Room Christian School to have the advantage of this rich and diverse cultural and educational environment for study and learning.

 

The school welcomes all lines of religion, race, skin color, and cultural backgrounds and accepts students from around the world.  Students are black skinned, brown, yellow and white.   This racially and culturally diverse learning environment reflects more and more of who Americans really are, and helps to greatly prepare our students for “global citizenship” and a global economic, business, social and educational environment.   This environment alone, will produce great advantages and benefit to our graduates throughout their lives.  At Upper Room Christian School, African American students come from local wealthy families (the lawyers, the doctors and etc.) and there are also international students from the English-Speaking countries in Africa over the past two years. All of these students are from highly educated families with status and identity, who are also practicing Christians.

 

In this same spirit of teaching cultural and racial harmony in the midst of diversity, Upper Room Christian School has embraced and accepts our Chinese students and culture as well.  As China and America have more and more encouraged educational exchange, the school has begun to recruit more students from China, especially since 2009.  Over the years, this extensive cultural exchange initiative and cooperation between China and America has created tremendous opportunities for Chinese students to study in America.  Upper Room Christian School along with SUEA is leading the way for this educational reform and advancement of a Chinese cooperation with the American educational system, especially with the 2+1+3 college preparatory program that we have begun.  This new academic initiative alone, will cause a growing number of Chinese students to want to study at Upper Room Christian, as part of the SUEA educational system.  Our program will maintain high quality and rigorous academic requirements in accordance with the general knowledge and practices of the educational goals and guidelines we have set for our international students.  In order to do this, we will maintain the ratio of international students enrolled to not more than 20% of the total student enrollment.

 

In addition, to meet the growing request for cultural and language assimilation, as part of our cooperation, Upper Room Christian School provides wonderful American host families for students to grow in an English learning environment, and provide the care, safety and security that children and students need to feel at home and excel academically.

 

We all have to understand that it takes time and patience for the assimilation process to progress, and for Chinese students to adapt to the American culture and way of life here in the United States.  We can understand that both parents and students initially have inherent thoughts and set ways of thinking about our school, and living in America, which is normal for everyone. But over time, students will grow rapidly, adjust some of their thinking and attitudes, and be able to better adapt to a new and harmonious school and home life in America.  The good news is that our Chinese students are never alone! So to help them in this process, the Sino-U.S. Educational Alliance (SUEA) has set up a Chinese Student Affairs Office at Upper Room Christian School, where a dedicated bi-lingual Chinese American staff is committed to help every Chinese student make this transition into American life and study successful and enjoyable.  We are always here to help and guide Chinese students and families in this new cultural and educational experience.

一．爱博伦中学是一所典型传统的基督教中学。从学校的硬件到软件这一切都按传统的基督教理念来设立，管理。在宽大的校园中矗立着一座有二千八百个席位的宏伟基督教堂，教堂下面就是学校，故纽约长島基督教恊会將这所典型传统学校起名为Upper Room Christian School含意着耶稣守护着其信徒及孩子们。办学的理念相当严谨，教师都是传统的欧洲移民后人，且全是基督教徒。学校为小班制，教师与学生比为 1：6.5，教师拥有硕士以上学位，髙年级各门主科由大学教授任教。学校在注重教授知识的同时注重培养学生的人格。该校升学率为百分百，百分之九十五进入全美的主流大学。

爱博伦学校的课程全部经过纽约州教育厅核准，是先进的，是跟得上时代脚步的。学校开设了大学预修课程。让每个学生毕业后能够进入美国主流大学，而我们提供的“社会经验”课程，更让学生有成熟的心智去面对社会，创造自己一个亮丽的前途。

 

二．爱愽伦学校有着多元化的教育氛围。她跨越宗教，种族，肤色及文化背景，包容招收五湖四海的学子，也自然包括了黑肤色及黄肤色的学生。学生在多元化的学习环境中学习对学生今后的人生会产生深远的有益影响。这里黑肤色的学生除了来自当地富裕家庭（律师，医生等等）的孩子外，这两年多了些来自非洲的英语系國家的留学生（有地位及身份的受过高等教育的上层人士的子女）他们都是基督教徒，有教养的求学者。

 

三．爱愽伦基督教学校认同中华文化。从2009年起招收中国留学生。随着中美文化教育的深入交流与合作的日益加强，到美国留学的中国中学生將越来越多，这己成趋势了。爱慱伦学校秉承开放的态度与中國紧密合作，实踐着2+1+3的优秀的教育工程项目，因而就会有愈来愈多的中国学生前来報读;我们在坚持开放的同时会严谨治学，保持优质的教学按照中美两國共识的教育規定留学生占比应在百分之二十以内。爱慱伦中学维持在百分之十五左右。
